Creativity is good for your soul. The more you create, the more creative you will feel.

Why not try a different form of art making?

Nurture your playfulness for a few hours while you create art using textiles, paint and stitch.

Let your mind wander. You can't be distracted by your phone while your hands are occupied with scissors, paint brushes and sewing needles.

Create an abstract collage on canvas

Get ready for 3 hours of crafting fun!

Starting with a doodle, you'll be guided through the steps to craft your own textile art piece.

Nothing's better than getting your hands on someone else's fabric stash. Have fun selecting from my collection of colourful fabric remnants. Recycling is great – right!

Making art + craft is a perfect way to unwind and be in the moment. You'll end the session feeling relaxed and proud of your creativity.

Art is for everyone!

*You don't need to be good at art to enjoy ART SOCIAL*

ART SOCIAL pop-ups are led by me.

As an artist/designer, I know that 'making' has positive mental and physical health benefits. I want to help you feel relaxed and creative, in a social environment.

Shirley X

WHO AM I?

My diverse career enabled me to:

  • make art that adds texture and personality to living spaces.

  • run art and craft workshops to spread the satisfaction of making.

  • design fashion that sold in independent shops – appeared in i-D, The Face and Italian Vogue magazines – and worn by many, including Emma Thompson and Lauren Hill.

  • realise the ideas of choreographers and see them come to life as a dance costume designer/maker.

RECENT PROJECTS

    SLABS + PRINTS

My artwork is inspired by an ever evolving urban environment.

SLABS are sculptural wall pieces constructed from layers of deconstructed textile, stitch and paint. Built with complexity, they communicate a sense of energetic movement, much like graffiti.

My multi-layered PRINTS reference the 'accidental art' created by accumulated marks and imperfections found in the urban enviroment.

PORTRAITS

I stitched 52 faces in 52 weeks!

Drawing with needle and thread was a skill I'd been keen to explore, so in 2011, I set myself a challenge.

Over the year, as I experimented with technique, my stitched portraits became more layered and detailed.

These are my favourites, so I've transformed them into high quality digital prints for you to buy, starting at £125.

COSTUME SHOWREEL

'Body and Cloth - Move Through Space' shows a sample of the dance costumes that I design and make. The video features extracts from, 'Freak' and 'Red'.

'Red' was choreographed by Sheron Wray, and performed at the Royal Opera House, by her dance company JazzXchange.

'Freak' was a personal project. The costume design developed from an intention to illustrate the complexities surrounding the use of ones skin to communicate to others. In particular I was concerned with our conflicting views as a society of what is perceived as beauty.
